Saturday morning we woke at the crack of dawn, piled into two taxis and traveled to Raffina Port. At Raffina, we boarded a huge ferry that took us to the island of Andros. Andros is a rather large island in the Aegean Sea. It is not very touristy, therefore, we experience the real local flavor. We spend much of the day at the beach in the town of Gavio. After a day in the hot sun, we take a loooong nap. After we awake (somewhat refreshed) we venture into the mountains for a festival. The festival featured traditional dancers and local grilled specialties. That evening lasts until 1AM. The next day, we travel across the island to the north side. This is Andros, Andros, which the locals refer to as "Hora", or town. This is the capital of the island of Andros. It is a beautiful and wealthy town where many of the Greek shipping magnates spend their winters there in stately mansions. Uncle Nick takes us to the part of town where he spent his youth. There we help him fill water bottles with fresh water from a mountain spring. Later that evening, it's back onto the ferry to Athens. Monday, we will just hang out. Tuesday, we will fly to Ikaria. More to come....
Naxos
Hi Everyone-
We enjoyed the red-eye from Kennedy Monday afternoon , flying directly into Athens after a ten hour flight. From there, we went to the apartment, crashed for a couple of hours and then caught a high speed ferry to Naxos, one of the cyclades islands. What a beautiful place to visit! Our accomodations here is actually a two bedroom apartment that has a spectacular mountain view. We spent most of our days scouting out the best beach and our nights- the best food!!
Tomorrow we take another ferry to Andros. We will stay there until Monday when we return to Athens. We are looking forward to the new Archeological Museum at the base of the Acropolis. Until then....

We really missed you all at Bethany this year but am so happy you were able to go back to Greece-- um the water DOES look a bit cleaner than the Bethany surf!! Do they sell Crocks w/ all those sandals?? Miss you and look forward to more of your blogging!
Hi,Yanouzas Family,
What a fairytale vacation! I can't get over the gorgeous view from your apartment- talk about water-views! It is so wonderful that you have had this opportunity to reconnect in person with far away family members after an entire year apart from them... However, don't get too comfortable, I miss you so very much, and need to have you back here at home!!!! I have had a busy week supervising the installation of my concrete driveway (no, they didn't start until just last Tuesday due to problems with other jobs they had begun before mine!), so I didn't comment on your gorgeous pictures in a timely manner. My apologies! Please know that I have enjoyed every single photo and diary entry that you have kindly shared! (Again, Tracy, it is no wonder that you are such a gifted writing teacher!)Have a fabulous time in Rome, and please let me know when you are safely back in Monroe!!!
Special love, Serena
